In gearing towards the election for Bangkok Governor which will take place on Sunday, 3 March 2013, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in partnership with the Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) organized a public hearing with the five leading candidates on 28 February 2013. The public hearing with candidates aimed to provide a public space for citizens to vice out their opinions about the development of Bangkok.

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) strongly condemns the assassination attempt on Ahmed Dogan, head of the Bulgarian liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF). Mr Dogan narrowly escaped an assault during his keynote speech at the 8th party congress of the MRF when a 25 year old man jumped upon the stage and aimed a pistol at his head. Fortunately, no shot was fired.

The party congress which comprised about 800 delegates and guests - among them representatives of Turkish parties and international delegations of liberals (e.g. Graham Watson, head of ALDE and Hans van Baalen, president of Liberal International) - was interrupted immediately.
