Dr. Rainer Adam and Mr. Harunobu Yonenaga

On their recent visit to Japan (10-15 January), Dr. Rainer Adam and Mr. Walter Klitz also paid a visit to the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ). They were kindly received by Mr. Harunobu Yonenaga, Member of the House of Councillors and Vice Director-General of the DPJ´s International Department. Mr. Yonenaga outlined the current political situation in Japan and the concomitant challenges facing the DPJ during the conversation. He also reiterated the DPJ´s interest in a continuation of the successful cooperation with the German Free Democratic Party (FDP) and other liberal parties in Asia within the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD). Both the DPJ and FDP have recently entered a governmental coalition after an extended period in the parliamentary opposition. This could form the basis for closer cooperation among the two liberal parties in the future.

Dr. Adam is the Regional Director for Southeast and East Asia of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF) and Mr. Klitz the foundation´s Resident Representative in Seoul.
