The headquarters of Democrat Party of Indonesia was recently visited by the youngest member of Netherland’s political party, D66. What is it exactly that they have in common and what makes both parties interested in knowing more about the background and political system of their countries?
Dennise and Christina of the D66 were welcomed by Agustinus Mbapa and Hasyim Husein. They shared their experiences and views on several interesting points. Although the ideologies of both parties are different this does not stop them from making plans for future cooperation.
They were keen to know about the presidential system and its relation with parliamentary system that we have, specifically on the functions and tasks of the legislative and executive body. When the Democrat Party was asked whether there is an instrument in Indonesia that can play the role as the unifier of a policy or issue they explained that this is where the coalition of political parties plays its role. The Democrat Party is in coalition with five big parties, Golkar, PAN, PKS, PKB, and PPP. This coalition was formed in 2009.
The Democrat Party recently became the new icon in Indonesia for having young party members. The Chairman of the Party is a young political figure in the age of 41 years, while the Secretary General is only 29 years old. The D66 thinks that this is a good start of the journey of democracy in Indonesia and should be set as a good example for other countries.
After having this discussion, it is hoped that communications can run smoothly in the future and that cooperation can be made between both parties. This visit is considered as the door opener for the Democrat Party to embark on a new destination as a modern party. |
